There are too many people who mindlessly do a job instead of helping fix a situation or problem that would help everyone. People can become the solution to any problem, no matter how seeming difficult. All they have to do is CARE and ACT. Apathy should be a crime. – Paulette Le Pore Motzko

Paulette Le Pore Motzko blogged this week about how people can become the solution to any problem. I agree with her sentiments. This week there was discussions on LinkedIn about the monetary value of volunteers to the community. Nationally in the UK it is worth billions each year! However, the real value of people who give up their time – even a few hours a week – is in the effect they have on the lives of individuals, groups, animals and themselves. This is particularly true of my generation – in our 60’s – with a bit more time on our hands – but so much more to give. It keeps both mind and body active. For young people having voluntary work on a CV is just as important as paid work and I have often employed staff who have shown that they will work and learn skills even if they do not get paid for it. We cannot change the whole world, but we can change our small part of it and make a difference.
