The John Stewart Company unfairly declined my application

Let me set the scene for you:

Here it is last night about 7 p.m. and I am drinking some Jasmine Pearl Tea at Peet’s Coffee & Tea. I get 3 emails from Vanessa and one from Ms. Horn the VP of The John Stuart Company stating after being told I was chosen for this place out of thousands in Orange County, giving up my dog Lucky, incurring storage and hotels just to enable to stay wait for my place to be done being built.

I passed the credit &  background checks weeks ago and saw the place. It was more than an apartment, but supposed to be a way to enable disabled people to live better quality lives.
It turned into a nightmare.

After being told two times the project was taking 3 months longer than anticipated, I have been in more Motel 6’s than I want to admit to, had my $1000 laptop and $300 Jetpack 4G portable router stolen and am now friends with the president of Uhaul who has made sure I didn’t lose everything in storage vaults!

I made a choice to wait for this place as an investment in my life quality, never thinking it would drag out this long or have such a horrid ending!

It ain’t over yet though.

I contacted one of the story writers for The Orange County Register and he is considering doing a story about it.

I hope he does. Just because people are disable doesn’t mean they should be treated like garbage.

I was told in the pdf file by the VP of The John Stewart Company my application was being denied because I used profanity….well I asked for a move in date and they left it open ended, making me feel like the whole charade could go on to infinitum. I wouldn’t allow that.

The things I earn money with are in the storage vault…desk office chairs & my upright grand piano.

Had I moved to Arizona, like I was planning the last week of March 2013, I would be moved in, building piano students etc.

CA was and always will be my first choice to live…my mom lives here, my friends who are my extended family.

What was the rent on The Vista del Rio in Santa Ana? $444 a month, free wifi, and Good Will Industries would have helped me with grocery shopping, since I don’t drive any more (after my near fatal car accident 15 years ago having a seizure behind the wheel!)

I just want peace and wish I would find people who know the meaning of the word INTEGRITY, FAIRNESS and who have a CONSCIOUS. The John Stewart Company possess none of those qualities.

What should I do?

  1. Email me more. Depending on who funded this housing project — e.g. HUD, CTCAC, CA HCD, CalHFA — I am may be able to bring your issues before government officials I have been communicating with. Also I am corresponding with the news media about The John Stewart Company and the Mission Gardens Apartments in Santa Cruz. I have and still suffer at the hands of The John Stewart Company too. They just falsely denied me an emotional assistance animal by tampering with my tenant file — they are shameless! This is just one of my problems caused by The John Stewart Company: they are trying to falsely evict me.

    1. What did they do to you, if you dont mind me asking?
I faxed them 6 months of my savings account with the act # scribbled out. Why did they need that, when I met with Carlos Uribe, Marsha Estrada, and the regional manager Joan. My credit check and background check passed then they deny me?

Feel free to email me at

    2. I am so glad you wrote me! Carlos Uribe left two voice mails today as my phone was off.
Makes me think even though it really would have been a dream come true if the management had been as great as Good Will Industries & Project Indpendence.
What would you do if you were me?
I wanted to keep my dog Lucky and though he wasnt a care dog he did help me if I ever had auras. It is a stupid rule is you ask me.

    3. Why do they want to evict you? What apt building are you living in?
From the research I did on them, they manage about 350 of them all over CA.
Due to my place taking about 3 months longer than anticipated, I never heard one apology, nothing that made me feel I was dealing with human beings.
They knew my rotten brother in law and sister were planning on evicting me April first, and I have been paying for storage units for the things like my piano, desk, chairs, kitchen table and gourmet kitchen), cooking by way of a small crock pot and having friends help me pay for it all.
No offer to help pay for the costs or even let me live in one of their other apts.
When I went to look at the Vista del Rio they looked move in ready to me. I have no idea what is gonna take another month.

      Are you also in CA?

Email me your contact info & we can talk. Sounds like class acction suit material to me!

    4. This was not funded by the government but the entities involved are:

Good Will Industries- I went to Chapman U. with George Kessinger who was the president of GWI at the time. I dont want to say anything derogatory about them or their fantastic organization. They take old battered furniture and create jobs for disabled people fixing it up to sell for various programs all over the USA. I have had no bad dealings with any one here.

Project Independence- Another extraordinary organization that helps people with developmental disabilities lead better quality lives. I dont know if they helped fund the project but they help people with rental assistance and other things like budgeting etc.

The John Stewart Company- The management company behind the 13 million dollar project called the Vista Del Rios in Santa Ana, CA. It took 6 yeats to build, and I am not sure why so long, since it only has 42 units.

I was promised a one bedroom one bath apartment with a table and chairs and new bedroom set.

When I asked to have all this in writing, every headquarter division hung up on me and would not even let me finish my sentence! They didnt want to hear what I had to say and didnt care. It also showed they wouldnt commit to creating a legal binding contract proving they really do what they told me.

i just want a place to live and at this point, any where is good.

    5. Come to think of it, though my dog Lucky (that I had for a long time and had to give up) was not a care dog, I mentioned to them he helped me when I am having auras. According to ADA law, do i have any grounds for adding that to the list of blunders from The John Stewart Company? I think they are corrupt.

Read their YELP reviews. My friend in MA did and he said they are horrible. One guy needed 911 to be called and it wasnt.

Thanks to you and the things you told me, there is no way in hell I want to live in any of their apartments. I will sue the _____ out of them though and make a class action suit out of it.

      How do we do that?

Marsha Estrada made the crack that said it all: “If you behave then maybe we’ll let you live here”.

Can you see with that demeaning attitude how difficult it would be to get anything fixed or done?

They control people they think are desperate or stupid.

      I am neither.
